Pinata!
Ten days ago, the FSF group of Grandes (older girls), together with Suyen and Veronica, had the idea of celebrating "El Dia del Nino" (Children's Day) with a party in the office. When the brainstorm started, a lot of ideas came out. The Grandes decided to split into three groups- one group would be in charge of decorations, one group in charge of food, the last group in charge of games. The preparations went on for many days as we all hoped to make the event as nice as possible. It paid off - the result was wonderful!
The group in charge of food prepared a lot of rice with Suyen. The office was perfectly decorated and a lot of funny games were organized! In addition to this, the Grandes bought a pinata and Ann brought special candies from the United States to fill it.
In the days leading up to the event the Grandes gave out invitations to each of the Pequenas (younger girls) and everyone was really excited. When the day finally arrived, Veronica and her group had the girls cheering as they played pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey and other funny games. At the end of each game, the winner received a T-Shirt.
Then came the funniest part of all....the pinata! It was a big doll full of candies. Emily, the youngest girl in FSF, started dancing trying to break the pinata with a big stick, but the pinata was so big that she needed the help of a lot of other girls. After more then ten minutes fighting with the pinata, it finally broke and all the girls started running and collecting the candies strewn all around the office! Everyone was screaming and laughing!
At the end of the party everyone received a dish of rice (really good rice with chicken and vegetables), a piece of bread, and a glass of Tang! We sat and ate together and then the Grandes gave each Pequena a pack they had prepared with small presents and candies!
In the end, the Pequenas were so happy, the Grandes were so satisfied about the good job they had done, and the night was the best I've seen since coming here! A wonderful experience and, by the way, good job Grandes..you are the best!
