This week is Semana Santa, Easter Week, and in a country more than 90% Catholic, it's a pretty big deal. We were told to stock up on Corn Flakes now or hold out til Monday because everything useful is closing down for the next few days. Since no one around here is doing any work, we've used the time to plan ahead for our last few events before we head home on the 31st.
Our last big event will be a tournament next weekend. The problem is that we're inviting 10 high school teams to participate, teams that Milton forgot to tell us about but we discovered through other means. The teams normally compete for about a month or two every year in Futsal, a 6v6 form of soccer. With thoughts of a future 11v11 league in mind, reaching out to these teams is a huge priority. Most of the teams are just coached by their gym teachers, and don't have balls or uniforms, so we are anxious to see the level of play and level of interest. These schools aren't in session this week, so on Monday we will run around to all of them to try to convince them to play in the tournament. The tournament will take place at a caged Futsal field down by the lake. To make it more visible, early next week we are going to repaint the field (with the help of a couple local teams), and have hired a fencer to repair all the holes in the fence. I hope the Nicaraguans have some artistic ability because I sure don't!
Signing off for now, but stay tuned for another top ten list. Top ten miscommunications and their unfortunate consequences coming soon.
